New podcast from Ed Dale

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Ed Dale has a new podcast on the Thirty Day Challenge, which as always is worth a listen too. I’m just back from the gym where I was listening to Ed’s dulcet tones :-)

Some good advice as usual - he talks about how increasing your typing speed to improve productivity, and I certainly find that sometimes I can just brain dump a load of stuff while typing at around 300 mph and it is great. The problem for me is getting into the frame of mind for the brain dump though, so although he’s right, that isn’t the whole story.

He also talks about scribd, which I think I’ll avoid talking about from now on as I think I’ve been crossed off Andy Jenkin’s Christmas card list for good, not to mention probably closing for good any opportunity to join Stompernet in the future. C’est la vie.

However, there was mention about Gtrends not working any more. I certainly found it don’t work yesterday, and when I went to Google trends it didn’t seem to work for some terms but worked for others. As of now Gtrends, Gtrends 2.0 and Google trends all seem to be working, so I think that was a false alarm.

The Thirty Day Challenge website is down at the moment, but when it’s working again you can download the podcast here.

No email, now no Digg

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Well, I’m back. And it’s an interesting start to the year.

First I forgot to renew one of my domains. The website isn’t important to me any more as it has had a Google penalty for around 18 months, but almost all my email goes through this domain as I’ve used it since 1999.

First of all I thought that people weren’t back at work yesterday, until I looked at the website. Thinking it was my server, I checked another domain; it was fine. Finally checking the DNS details I found that to all intents and purposes the domain no longer existed.

Re-registering the domain was no problem, and the website was up and running within a couple of hours. But when I found no email this morning I began to worry. After multiple reconfigurations it might be working - it was throwing out a 550 - no relaying error earlier, but I’ve received some spam which at least is a good sign :-)

The second interesting thing is that I’m no longer on Digg. Digg+blog has been a powerful combination in getting articles to rank in minutes, but I admit that I may have overdone it with Digg. They clearly think so as my account is no longer and my IP address seems to be blocked.

I’ve been using Digg regularly since about May for StomperNet SIMPLE; then the 30 Day Challenge; and just recently with Immediate Edge. I’ll take it a bit easier with other similar sites as I’ve been hitting them too, but it will be interesting to see how much my rankings suffer by being bigtime undugg.

Oh, the shame of it - what would Ed Dale say?

What is a niche market?

Friday, October 5th, 2007

I’ve been reading Mike Mindel’s excellent blog for the 30 Day Challenge and one of the things that struck me was how he struggled to define a niche market. Now Mike doesn’t seem like he’s overly mentally challenged and in fact understanding what a market is - and even what marketing really is - are concepts that many marketers struggle with too. SEO talk at Restaurante Namaste, Barcelona

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Just back from eating a great Indian chicken curry recipe at Restaurante Namaste in Barcelona with Dan. Almost went to the wrong restaurant as there are 2 of the same name and only one shows up in Google, but we talked to the owner at the end about his website which turns out not to be indexed. SEO and beer at Belly

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Last night I finally met Dan, one of the original members of my StomperNet SIMPLE team who also lives in Barcelona.

We should have met before, but I was hyper busy before the summer and cancelled a couple of times, so was glad to finally meet at Belly for the monthly Barcelona entrepeneur’s group networking meetup. Over a few beers we had a good chat about SEO and internet marketing, including StomperNet SIMPLE, the 30 Day Challenge and Immediate Edge. It’s always good to find someone who speaks the same language as you (I don’t mean English, I mean SEO) so I hope we can meet up a bit more often than once every 4 or 5 months.

Chicken curry anyone? :-)

StomperNet SIMPLE vs The 30 Day Challenge

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Back from London and I’ve had a bit of a chance to recover by diving into the 30 Day Challenge like mad. I’m now going through day 27, so made some progress over the last few days. In fact there aren’t too many action points, most of it is listening/watching the podcasts/videos and so it has been relatively easy to steam ahead. (more…)

More on the 30DC meltdown

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

The 30 day challenge is still in meltdown, with Dan Raine working around the clock to get a new server up and running before resuming new downloads.

For the few people who are complaining, remember that the 30DC is free. Ed and Dan gain no immediate benefit from running it other than the warm glow of satisfaction from giving so something back. And it certainly shows that they can market on the internet.

Thirty Day Challenge overload

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Well we’re onto day 2 of the Thirty Day Challenge 3.0 and there is currently a huge server meltdown as 1000s of people across the globe try and download today’s video/podcast. I haven’t been able to access the info yet, but will say that the day 1 content was great, a nice and easy intro to internet marketing and with a taste of some great Web 2.0 know how from Dan Raine.

I personally can’t wait, it’ll be interesting to see how it compares with Stompernet SIMPLE. Although this kind of marketing was covered, I don’t think there was enough detail on that programme and it left many people confused. However, it is starting to work and I want to see how different the results are from what Dan will be teaching.

If you’re not already signed up, you can still add to the server overload at http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com. See you there.

And we’re off!

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

The 2007 Thirty Day Challenge has just opened and the response so far is terrific. So far in the pre-season we’ve had some great video content and podcasts from Ed Dale and Dan Raine and we’re due for a whole month more. It’s not too late to join the fun and the website is in the top 1000 according to Alexa.

I’m really looking forward to some of the stuff from Dan as he’s a master at  Web 2.0 marketing and will be applying it like crazy when I get back to work in September.

Take a look at this!

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I can’t claim to have found this myself, rather someone Stumbled Upon phatterism and posted it on the 30 Day Challenge forum. Very, very creative, I wonder how much more of this kind of stuff we’ll be seeing as the internet matures.
